The Interface

When you run MPegger you are presented with the following window.

1. File being encoded
This shows what file is being encoded, and how many files have been processed so far.

2. Progress bar
As MPegger encodes, the progress bar will fill up. When it reaches the right side, the file is finished encoding.

3. Time elapsed/remaining
This shows how much time MPegger has spent encoding the current file, and how much time until the file is complete.

4. Output file name
This shows what the MP3/MP2 file being created will be named.

5. Total frames
When encoding, files are divided into "frames." Each frame contains a certain amount of audio data. Total frames simply shows how many frames are in the audio file you are encoding.

6. Input format
Displays the file type, sampling rate, and number of channels in the file being encoded.

7. Encoding format
Displays the method being used to encode the audio file, whether it is being encoded as monaural or stereo, and the bitrate of the encoded file.

8. Frames per second
Displays how many frames (see #5) are being encoded per second. This will give you a rough idea of how fast MPegger is encoding.

9. Encode/Play ratio
This also gives you an idea of how fast MPegger is encoding. The first number is the amount of time spent encoding a piece of audio, and the second number is how long that piece of audio is. For example, 1.5:1 means that MPegger takes 1.5 seconds to encode 1 second of audio from the original file.

10. Open File Button
Opens a file from your hard drive for encoding. See "Encoding from a drive or disk " This option is also available in the File Menu

11. Open CD Button
Opens a track from a CD for encoding. See "Encoding from a CD "

12. Pause/Resume/Preferences button
This button serves two operations. During encoding, it allows you to pause the encode in case you don't want MPegger to slow down your computer, but don't want to cancel your encode job. When paused, it switches to Resume, which unpauses the encode job.
